Phillip is the director of the Marine and Environmental Law Institute and was Dean of Law and Weldon Professor of Law, 2005-2010. Phillip’s Teaching and research interests are in international marine and environmental law, maritime boundary delimitation, and fisheries law. He was formerly with the International Centre for Ocean Development, delivering ocean development programmes in the South Pacific, Caribbean and Indian Ocean. He has advised states law of the sea in the South Pacific, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, Southeast Asia and other regions, and was counsel for Nova Scotia in the Nova Scotia/Newfoundland boundary arbitration. He is an author and co-general editor of International Law, Chiefly as Interpreted and Applied in Canada (2014).
